What are the responsibilities and job description for the Life Guard position at City of McMinnville?
A lifeguard's primary purpose is to watch over Gilley Pool patrons, ensuring their safety in and out of the water. If a patron finds themselves in trouble, a lifeguard must act quickly and appropriately, often going into the water to rescue them... like a swimming superhero. Lifeguards require excellent focus skills to continuously scan the water and ensure swimmers are always safe. Lifeguards must be helpful, courteous, and professional. Pay is an hourly rate of $13/hour for part time work at 15-40 hours per week. Employees will get to utilize parks and recreation facilities including the Milner Recreation Center and the Gilley Pool free of charge, not during scheduled working hours.
Must possess minimum lifeguard training:
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate (YMCA equivalent
acceptable)
Current American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate
Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certificate
Thorough knowledge of proper rescue techniques and proper use of rescue equipment.
Must be able to perform water rescues, give CPR and First Aid.
Must understand facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with the public and employees.
Ability to work flexible hours with evening, weekend and holiday work required.
Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
