What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal - Baseball/ Softball Umpire position at City of McMinnville?
Umpiring and scorekeeping youth sports is a very fun and rewarding job. You can make a positive impact on the lives of the young athletes of McMinnville. I have players, coaches and parents tell me all the time about the officials that make the game more enjoyable for everyone.
It is the umpire/scorekeepers' responsibility to enforce the rules impartially and control the game so that the players and coaches have a positive experience. Must be able to see, speak, hear, and write clearly. Must be able to read, understand and enforce the rules. We will try to give everyone at least 2 nights of work per week.
You must be at least 16 years old.
McMinnville Youth Baseball/Softball league age groups are 3-4 coed T ball, 5-6 boys and 5-6 girls T ball, 7-8 boys coach pitch, 7-9 girls coach pitch, 9-10 boys kid pitch, 10-14 girls kid pitch, 11-12 boys kid pitch, 13-15 boys kid pitch.
Girls play on Monday and Thursday nights. Boys play on Tuesday and Friday nights. Games start at 530 each night.
We also have adult slow-pitch softball, with games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. We are sanctioned by Middle Tennessee Youth Baseball and Softball Association.
The league is projected to start August 19 and run through October 28th.
Experience as baseball/softball umpire or scorekeeper is not required. We will do training for umpires and scorekeepers prior to the season. Knowledge of the game and rules would be very helpful. Umpires' shirts will be provided.
In addition to being a fun summer job, the pay is good also. Pay for umpires is $22 per hour and for scorekeepers is $12 per hour. You will also receive a pass to the Milner Recreation Center during your employment with the league.
