Basic Function And Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Highway Foreperson, the Maintenance Equipment Operators are responsible for transporting employees' equipment and materials. Responsible for loading and unloading trucks for pick-ups and hauling away waste materials, plowing and hauling snow from streets, sanding hills in the winter, greasing oil, and keeping equipment clean and running well. Makes minor repairs, and assists in other work as assigned, such as street cleaning, repairs, evacuation, and backfill. Performs associated work in connection with street and drain work projects. Operates the following: passenger automobile, tractor, bulldozer, (less than 5 tons), air compressor, lightweight snow removal equipment, and similar machinery.
Perform manual labor such as pick and shovel work to dig and fill trenches, grading and loaming, and sweeping streets. Assist in repairing structures and equipment, assist in constructing and repairing streets, sidewalks curbing, culverts, manholes, cutting and moving grass by hand or power mowers and associate ground breaks, sewage stoppage, fallen wires, and trees. Handle other complaints to service such as emergency calls, when possible, to notify the necessary members of the day crew or department as required. Heavy work is required.
Education & Experience
Minimum Requirements: High School or GED
Must Hold License: Valid Class D Driver’s License and a Class B (CDL) Commercial Driver’s License.
Environmental Conditions
Indoor and outdoor environments with wide range of weather conditions, exposure to vibrations and noise; work on slippery or uneven surfaces, work with electrical energy; work with and around heavy machinery; work in or near vehicle traffic; exposure to dust and fumes from motorized equipment; possible exposure to toxic chemicals; irregular working hours for inclement weather situations and other circumstances.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Essential functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying which includes the ability to lift at least fifty pounds; pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling; use of fingers, both hands and legs required; must be able to distinguish colors and operate assigned vehicle
HOURS OF WORK: Full time (40 hours weekly) Mon. – Fri. 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
SALARY: Union PW 5.5 ($1,139.43 - $1,192.17/week)
