Description
The incumbent performs a wide array of activities involved with the enforcement of City ordinances. The incumbent performs a variety of specialized tasks at times under difficult circumstances to enforce the City's codes. Work is performed with independence in the field; making decisions requiring the use of judgment, discretion, and diplomacy. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and for results obtained.
Examples of Duties
- Surveys the City for code violations such as overgrown lots, trash, debris, abandoned vehicles, and substandard housing; researches to secure name and address of owner; prepares correspondence notifying owner of the violation, requesting resolution under terms of the ordinance, and follows up to ensure compliance.
- Acts in appropriate and professional manner to educate residents regarding codes.
- Works with City, County and State Departments in areas of common goals to all departments.
- Maintains established community standards through constant monitoring of area of control for violation.
- Prepares special reports and maintains activity records.
- Prepares and presents cases before the City's Code Enforcement Board.
- Maintains current code cases files.
- Assists in the filing and retrieving of code enforcement files.
- Utilizes a computer to perform word processing and database input.
- Responds to citizen complaints mostly dealing with City ordinances by notifying the violators (respondents), and encouraging compliance.
- Facilitates voluntary compliance with City codes.
- Empowers community self-help programs and projects.
- Develops public outreach programs.
- Establishes community priorities for enforcement programs.
- Performs other assigned duties as assigned.

The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required : balancing, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
