What are the responsibilities and job description for the Work Experience (Secondary Students) - Library position at City of Melbourne?
Synopsis
Work Experience in Library Services (Secondary Students)
Ever wondered what it's like to work in a high-tech library environment?
This is not your everyday library work experience opportunity where we make you put books away all day - this is your chance to experience one week in an incredibly busy, capital city, public library service.
You will have the chance to experience different aspects of what a public library does, and we'll show you around so you can see the work done different teams and given the opportunity to meet specialist staff and learn more about individual roles within the organisation. You will undertake lots of varied tasks including locating items requested by library patrons, searching for missing or lost items, as well as working on projects and tasks that need your input.
You will have the opportunity to express your interest in working on different projects available with the Young Adult Team, Children’s Services Team, Adult Literacy and Learning Team, Community Heritage and Local History Team and Emerging Technology team, doing anything from helping out with story time to taking part in 3D printing workshops to assisting with promoting our photography competition.
Your opinion matters! We want to know what you have been reading, what you're into, how you spend your free time and if you like to write, draw, make music read comics or play games. You will be expected to help create content for our website, create displays with books, games, movies and music, and possibly even help us create young adult spaces for our future libraries by sharing your ideas.
In this role it is expected you will travel between the seven locations that make up Melbourne Library Service – City Library, Kathleen Syme Library, Library at the Dock, East Melbourne Library, North Melbourne Library, narrm ngarrgu and Southbank Library.
