The City of Menifee's Community Services Department is looking to fill multiple part-time/seasonal Water Safety Instructor positions as we prepare for our aquatics program! We are seeking energetic, motivated and enthusiastic candidates to join the team and contribute to our thriving community! Under the direction of the Pool Manager, this position teaches swimming lessons and/or specialized aquatic classes to the public. Monitors the use of the swimming pool and enforces safety rules; and performs other related duties as assigned. Note: This is an at-will, seasonal, part-time position without benefits. Positions may end at any time, and there is no guarantee of hours. Work hours for part-time positions are scheduled based on operational need and typically do not exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year from July 1 through June 30, unless further authorized. Incumbents may be required to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, holidays, weekends, and split-shifts. CLASS CHARACTERISTICSIn addition to the class characteristics of a Lifeguard, this position is responsible for the safety and general welfare of the public in the pool and will provide instruction in swimming and a variety of water fitness courses.

(Illustrative Only)Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.As a part of an aquatic team, prepares for and conducts swim lessons.Explains and enforces facility regulations, policies and procedures to participants.Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first-aid.Monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents.Maintains good relationships with participants, parents, and community groups.Assists in performing cleaning services of pool and other assigned areas.Performs related duties as required.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDSMaintain physical fitness, including the ability to swim 300 yards, tread water, and lift, retrieve, and move over 100 pounds, including heavier swimmers and maintain stamina in all types of weather. Ability to exert moderate physical effort in standing and walking, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and carrying, pushing, or pulling objects. Ability to lift and carry pool equipment, supplies, and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds. Additional testing requirements are established by the department.Sensory demands include the ability to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; and interact with patrons, staff, and the general public, and handle conflict situations involving the enforcement of safety standards and practices.ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTSThe employee is constantly exposed to wetness and moisture. The employee may be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at aquatic facility, as well as blood and body fluids rendering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Employees may interact with upset facility users and general public while enforcing departmental policies and procedures and safety requirements. The noise level varies between being moderate and loud depending upon pool play and number of users and typically ranges from 70 decibels to 80 decibels or higher. The employee is expected to work variable hours, including different shifts, evenings, and weekends.APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND SELECTION PROCESS A City application and supplemental questionnaire must be submitted. Interviews for successful applicants will take place on a weekend day at Paloma Valley High School pool. Interviews will consist of an oral interview and a skills test, on-deck and in the water on the same day. PLEASE NOTE: All successful applicants will be required to fill out an Applicant Release of Liability Form on the day of the interview and skills test. Applicants under the age of 18 must have this form signed by a parent or guardian.
