Characteristics of the Job
Plans, organizes, directs and participates in the repair and maintenance of equipment and vehicles owned by the City of Mequon including Public Works, Sewer Utility, Water Utility, Police and Fire; does related work as required. The employee in this class is responsible for seeing that proper repair and maintenance of the entire City-owned vehicles and mechanical equipment are performed. This employee also participates in the repair of equipment. The position requires a thorough knowledge of garage operation, engine overhaul, repair, purchasing practices, and computerized maintenance record system. Immediate supervision is exercised over automotive mechanics.

Required Training & Experience
Extensive experience in automotive and equipment repair and maintenance, including experience in a supervisory capacity in a garage or in fleet maintenance, and completion of a standard high school course, preferably supplemented with a two or four year college degree in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
