A Gas Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for the maintenance, management, and accuracy of records pertaining to the City of Mesa’s natural gas utility. Duties include, but are not limited to, collecting, organizing, and entering data; verifying the accuracy of infrastructure records; tracking assets; providing guidance and recommendations regarding specialized equipment, assets, and technical systems; updating records; and providing training to field personnel.
The Gas Infrastructure Specialist acts as a liaison between natural gas utility field personnel, engineering personnel, Geographic Information System (GIS) personnel, and Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) personnel to improve the accuracy and reliability of Energy Resources’ infrastructure records. The Gas Infrastructure Specialist may update records in GIS, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), the City’s Customer Information System (CIS), the Energy Resources’ internal gas valve application, and other similar systems. This position performs other related duties as required. The Gas Infrastructure Specialist is distinguished from the Gas Infrastructure Technician class by the greater complexity of specialized work performed, while the Gas Infrastructure Technician performs more routine tasks, such as data entry and clerical work. This class coordinates with other departments to ensure documentation conforms with required engineering, drafting, regulatory, and mapping standards. This class receives supervision by the Energy Resources Coordinator. Minimum Qualifications Required. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Geomatics, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Data Science, Computer Science, Management, or closely related field, AND extensive (5 years) field experience in any combination of natural gas, water, and/or wastewater utility construction, operation, maintenance; cathodic protection systems; or land survey. Plus, one-year of experience reading and interpreting construction redlines, site/development plans, as-built records, or similar utility installation and inspection records.
Special Requirements. Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date.
Preferred/Desirable Qualifications. Experience using MS Access, ArcGIS, construction documentation management practices, SQL query language, CMMS, and/or CIS.
