A Parks Maintenance Worker II works independently while performing a variety of semiskilled to skilled tasks in two or more trades or skill areas such as carpentry, welding, electrical, masonry, painting, or plumbing for the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of facilities, fixtures, and equipment at City parks, basins, golf courses, athletic/sports fields, and other recreational areas, including, but not limited to:  chain link fence repair and installation, and repair of parks, playgrounds, golf courses, stadium structures, facilities, and related equipment.  Employees in this class may also provide functional supervision or lead direction and training for Parks Maintenance Assistants, Parks Maintenance Worker I's, temporary agency workers, or volunteers. This class performs related duties as required. 

Parks Playground Equipment Inspection/Maintenance Assignment:  Employees assigned to the parks playground equipment inspection/maintenance assignment perform construction, maintenance, repair, inspections, and related service activities for the City’s playground and exercise equipment; including safety surfacing.  Duties include ensuring equipment and surfacing is in compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the American Society Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards/guidelines governing the design, installation, and use of playground areas; performing inspections as directed by departmental guidelines and/or playground manufacturer’s recommendations; conducting routine safety audits of each playground; maintaining records of inspections performed, maintenance performed, and safety audits; ensuring signage for playground is within standards and meets design intent; independently scheduling or completing related repairs; independently planning and organizing work activities; reading blueprints and schematics; estimating volumes of material needed; and initiating work needed and records work completed through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

This classification is distinguished from the next lower level, Parks Maintenance Worker I, by the advanced skill level and independence exercised by the Parks Maintenance Worker II.  The Parks Maintenance Worker II class is distinguished from the next higher level, Trades Worker, by the latter's performance of the full-range of tasks of a trade at the journey-level and, with the exception of the combined trades of electricity and plumbing, performs nearly all of the work in one trade.  Supervision is received from a Parks Maintenance Leader or Parks and Community Facilities Maintenance Foreman (depending on assignment) who reviews work through observation, conferences, reports, and spot checking of results achieved.  Employees are required to use appropriate safety equipment and procedures in performing assignments.  A Parks Maintenance Worker II may be subject to yearly rotational stand-by duty and 24-hour call-out; working evenings, early mornings, and weekend shifts.  This class is FLSA nonexempt.

Minimum Qualifications Required.  Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED.  Good (1 - 3 years) experience actively involved in the inspection, maintenance, repair and installation of playground equipment.

Special Requirements.  Must meet the qualifications to wear a tight-fitting respirator by passing a medical evaluation in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.134 by hire or promotion date and must maintain certification.  Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date.  Must possess a certification as a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) within six months of hire date.
