To perform a variety of code enforcement inspections on public and private property; investigate citizen complaints regarding potential code violations; enforce parking ordinances that govern parking of motor vehicles in select parking enforcement areas; interacts with the public in regard to enforcement issues and general information matters; performs related duties as assigned; performs a variety of administrative and support services. SUPERVISIONGeneral supervision is provided by the Environmental Code Field Supervisor.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual. Perform a variety of code enforcement inspections on public and private property; and perform follow-up inspections as necessary. Responds to alleged violations; interview complainant and witnesses, take photographs of violations, document activities and update records on existing electronic software system. Performs research to determine the approved conditional uses of property; research ownership and take action to enforce city codes. Patrols assigned areas on foot or in a Parking Enforcement Vehicle to inspect for motor vehicle compliance with the City of Mesquite parking ordinance and State of Texas. Issues parking tickets for motor vehicles in violation of parking regulations; takes photographs, documents and attaches appropriate notice on vehicle or presents to motor vehicle operator. Becomes knowledgeable of all parking ordinances of the City of Mesquite and other applicable state laws.Uses a department radio and/or cellular telephone, in accordance with department policy. Uses a mobile data computer as directed in accordance with department policy and State Law. Use the computer to access data on property ownership and lienholders for notices and citations; prepare correspondence outlining code regulations and violations. Maintains records and reports of inspections and surveillance activities; prepares reports as required. Interfaces and coordinates activities with other city departments, government agencies and the private sector. Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; and resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTestify in court, as necessary, on various environmental code violations. Perform other duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential. Available for rotating emergency after-hour inspections. Maintain maintenance on assigned vehicle. Work weekend illegal sign collection & enforcement duty, as required. Proper care and maintenance of assigned equipment.
