Nature of Work
Advanced manual labor duties of a skilled and semi-skilled nature. Work is performed under general supervision.
Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties
- Supervises unskilled employees
- Keeps some simple records and submits reports
- Performs manual labor work requiring knowledge of some specialized facets of a particular field of maintenance or construction work
- Operates maintenance or construction equipment or may drive a truck
- Drives and operates professional type mowers in the maintenance of parks and parkways and performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments thereon
- Repairs, replaces and installs sewer and water lines and related facilities
- Inspects, repairs and paints fire hydrants
- Paints, repairs, installs traffic signs, barricades and other traffic control devices
- Makes water connection taps and operates tapping equipment
- Spray paints road markings, loads painting materials and supplies
- Constructs and raises brick manholes
- Drives and operates farm-type tractors with a variety of attachments such as spreaders, trailers, drags, tillers, cultivators, mowing units, and other attachments necessary for park maintenance and construction; and performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments thereon
- Transports workers, equipment, materials, and supplies
- Performs related work as required
Minimum Requirements
- OPEN COMPETITIVE:
- Six (6) months experience performing semi-skilled manual labor, often under unfavorable conditions
- Florida Driver's license
- Some positions require a Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License valid for air brakes
- Shift work includes nights, weekends, and holidays
- PROMOTIONAL:
- Employed by the City for the past six (6) months with Regular status (part-time will be prorated)
- Six (6) months experience performing semi-skilled manual labor, often under unfavorable conditions
- Florida driver's license
- Some positions require a Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License valid for air brakes
- Shift work includes nights, weekends, and holidays
TEMPORARY (1 YEAR ONLY):
- Six (6) months experience performing semi-skilled manual labor, often under unfavorable conditions
- Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License valid for air brakes
- Six (6) months experience making water connection taps and operating tapping equipment
- Shift work includes nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact
- Significant walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to lift heavy objects
