What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pool Guard - Seasonal/Part Time position at City of Miami Beach?
This seasonal position assists year-round Recreation Division staff during a specific season (examples: summer, winter/spring breaks), or as needed by the Division. This is general lifesaving work involving the preservation of safety and order at a municipal swimming pool.
- Watches children and adult swimmers and performs rescue, artificial respiration, and first aid when necessary.
- Warns bathers against dangerous practices and keeps non-swimmers out of deep water.
- Enforces rules and regulations regarding pool and locker room use in a tactful manner and otherwise maintains order in the pool area.
- Performs related work as required.
- Current Certification in American Heart C.P.R. or American Red Cross Community First Aide & Safety (includes CPR).
- Current Certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid.
- Current Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training.
- Maintain Certification as required by the Division.
- Ability to work nights, weekends and/or holidays.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Physical ability to effect pool rescues under difficult conditions.
- Willingness and ability to participate in a training program in order to maintain proper physical fitness
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
- Some sitting, standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and swimming.
