What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Collection System Operator D position at City of Miami Beach?
The purpose of this classification is to train to perform skilled work involving the operation, repair and maintenance of the City of Miami Beach's wastewater collection system. Employees in this classification ensure safe working conditions, and maintain wastewater flow. Position reports to the Sewer Supervisor.

- Install new service laterals and wastewater collection system mains.
- Clears flow stoppages.
- Locate the City of Miami Beach's sewer mains, force mains, and laterals for other utilities and contractors.
- Operates heavy equipment when required.
- Sets up maintenance of traffic around job site to ensure safety and monitors traffic conditions.
- Uses and maintains hand tools, power tools, and test equipment as assigned.
- Assists mechanics and other tradesmen in routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Performs maintenance and repair of buildings, tanks and yard piping; maintains grounds, and cleaning walkways and roadways.
- Cleans, oils, and maintains yard equipment and tools.
- Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, or other documents.
- Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
- Documents all preventive maintenance accomplished on facilities, tanks, pipes, valves, and containment systems.
- Plans, estimates and purchases all materials required for construction of new wastewater special projects and various other types of projects.
- Document expenditures of funds and use of materials.
- Communicate with supervisor, employees, other departments, and stakeholders as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- High school diploma or GED and a demonstrated desire to serve the public.
- Must obtain Florida Water & Pollution Control Association issued Wastewater Collection Technician class C certification or a minimum Florida level "C" WWTPO license or higher within 18 months of employment to remain employed with the City of Miami Beach.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s) within 12 months of employment to remain employed with the City of Miami Beach. This position is subject to random drug/alcohol testing as required under the Federal Department of Transportation's Random Testing for CDL drivers.
- Must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language.
- This position is a trainee position and promotion to Wastewater Collection System Operator C is required within 18 months to remain employed with the City of Miami Beach.
- Shift work includes nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements:
- Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. All tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
- Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as confined space, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, operating machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards or toxic agents.
