General Description
Perform work of considerable difficulty in operating a variety of equipment in connection with public service or parks activities. Duties involve monitoring, adjusting and repairing existing irrigation systems, including troubleshooting and identifying problems with sprinkler control panels, pumps, wiring, piping control valves, solenoids and sprinkler heads. Also perform excavations, trenching, and backfilling activities. Responsible for setting and managing irrigation schedules. May perform landscaping duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions

Inspect, evaluate, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot existing irrigation system.
Read basic blueprints.
Understand basic backflow devices.
Replace controllers, zone valves, wiring, pipes, sprinkler heads and pumps.
Install new lines and reroute existing ones.
Program irrigation cycles on both mechanical and digital controls.
Operate trencher, backhoe and skid steer.
Insure public safety on worksite.
Perform light maintenance on tools and equipment.
Assist landscaping crews in grounds keeping duties as assigned.
Drive work truck and equipment trailer to respective work sites.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of equipment materials, methods and procedures used in various public service activities. Good knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in working with hand and power tools and operating equipment. Some knowledge of trades and effective automotive equipment operations and maintenance.
Skill in the operation of the required tools and equipment under all weather conditions.
Ability to learn tasks quickly with minimum amount of supervision. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. Ability to work safely. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform strenuous and heavy manual work under varying weather conditions.
Education and Experience Requirements : High School diploma or GED equivalent; and three (3) years experience in sprinkler maintenance and repair activities in a water system. Valid Florida Operator's License and satisfactory driving record.
