Newly employed officers are eligible for a one-time cash bonus of up to $5,000 under the provisions of F.S. 445.008.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Florida Certificate of Compliance (or enrolled in a police academy)
- U.S. citizen
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Valid Florida driver's license
- 19 years or older
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Prior to employment, City of Miami Springs Police Officer candidates will be required to qualify through the following : 1) an oral board structured interview, 2) a comprehensive background check including a credit check, 3) a computer voice stress analysis (lie detector), 4) a psychological screening, and 5) an FDLE medical examination with 8-panel drug screening.
The posted salary range reflects the base salary and does not include special assignment allowances. Lateral hires with at least two years of continuous full-time law enforcement experience will be placed in the appropriate step in the City's salary schedule in accordance with the City's collective bargaining agreement. This position is covered under the Miami Springs Police and Firefighters' Retirement System Pension Plan, which has a 6.5% pre-tax contribution for FY 2024-25. The City will consider financially sponsoring non-certified applicants who are currently enrolled in a police academy.
