What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics - Lifeguard Assistant Manager position at City of Middleton?
Under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Manager, the Lifeguard Assistant Manager oversees operations of the facility, including developing training programs for lifeguards. The Lifeguard Assistant Manager also provides all lifeguards with the daily supervision necessary to smoothly run an efficient facility, and to help ensure the safety of patrons. The Assistant Aquatic Manager will likely manage 15-20 hrs/wk, Lifeguard 10 hr/wk and teach swim lessons 10 hr/wk.
- Communicate daily with the Aquatic Manager on the operations of the pool. Incident, accident, and blood pathogen forms should be reviewed with the manager within 24 hrs of occurrence.
- Attend Management Meetings.
- Provide onsite supervision of Aquatic Center facility and staff, including supervision of the pool area and related facilities (greenspace, playground, sand area, etc.).
- Verify employee hours worked. Double check employee hours with scheduled hours.
- Schedule all shifts for full coverage and approving substitutions.
- Be able to perform all lifeguard duties in case of an emergency or if needing to fill in.
- Mentor staff in regards to consistency, training and overall departmental standards policies.
- Work with Aquatic Management Team to develop, schedule and run in-services. Provide aquatic staff with necessary information in a timely manner.
- Assist with opening/closing duties of the pool area and maintain appearance of the pool throughout the shift.
- Evaluate weather and water conditions in order to determine if it is safe to use the pool. Close the pool when necessary following the prescribed procedures.
- Keep and up-to-date inventory of all equipment and supplies (teaching aides, first aid materials, etc.) and replace when necessary.
- Keep daily records (personnel, employee hours, water temperatures, chemical records, number of swimmers for open swim, lessons, activities, and daily/monthly maintenance records.
- Respond to and resolve guest and/or employee complaints in a timely manner and creatively solve problems with the ability to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and resolve potential difficulties.
- Be helpful, friendly, and cheerful to public and fellow employees.
- Be prepared for emergencies and know the proper response procedures.
- Provide daily lifeguard staffing plan based off number of staff.
- Performs other related job duties as required.
- Vacuum & Maintenance of the pool when closed with Aquatic Management Team.
- Evaluate staff half way through the summer & end of summer.
- Thorough knowledge of aquatic safety principles and practices and lifesaving techniques.
- Understanding of applicable emergency medical response training and certification requirements.
- Must have knowledge of supervisory principles and practices and sound judgment and leadership skills.
- Ability to follow and enforce rules, verbally communicate with the public and staff effectively, and interpret and explain policies and procedures related to the Bauman Community Pool.
- Ability to mediate, troubleshoot, problem solve and diffuse potential difficulties.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current ARC Lifeguarding Certification required
- Current ARC Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred
- Minimum Age 20
- Three plus years lifeguarding at a multi-guard outdoor public facility
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification required
- Two years as a Head Lifeguard at a multi-guard outdoor, public community pool or equivalent
Salary : $21
