What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation - Theatre Assistant position at City of Middleton?
The Parks and Recreation Department offers several drama programs for youth in grades 1-8 during the summer. Programs meet Monday-Thursday, between the hours of 9:15am-4:15pm from June 23 through July 23. Must be present the evenings of July 24 & 25 (4:45pm-8:45pm) and July 26 (11:15am-3:15pm) to assist with final performances. The Theatre Program Assistant, will assist the Theatre Directors and Intern, with leading activities and learning experiences for children in a small & large group setting. They will monitor the general safety and guide the development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. The goal of this position is to develop youth leadership skills, to model positive participation and support students as they learn practical and creative theatre skills.
- Ensure a safe and enriching environment for youth
- Attend staff meetings and 1:1 meetings with Program Coordinators.
- Plan, lead, and implement programs and experiences for youth
- Prepare and set-up programs in advance as well as clean-up and take down of programs at conclusion.
- Provide supervision that ensures the safety of the participants.
- Maintain accurate records of class attendance, for questions from parents and ease of running activities.
- Demonstrate the activity skills in a professional and understandable manner.
- Communicate concerns about student behavior with directors to ensure cohesive and appropriate intervention.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with youth and staff peers
- Ability to work in an efficient and safe manner and carry out tasks with minimal direction
- Must be at least 14 years of age or older
- Experience with Theatre - such as previous class participation or training, theater participation, prop & scenery experience, lighting experience.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Training Preferred
