What are the responsibilities and job description for the Property & Evidence Technician position at City of Midland?
Performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in the support of the Police Department.
- Take control of property, identify, log and store securely and be accountable for all property transferred to the Property Section.
- Operates department computer equipment to review records, inquire about activities and programs, and input various data.
- Cooperate with other law enforcement agencies and matter relating to Property/Evidence.
- Interacts and works with citizens regarding Property/Evidence and responds to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Cooperates with prosecuting attorneys and courts.
- Works under stress and uses good judgment.
- Work irregular hours including weekends, holidays and extended hours in an emergency or other influenced by workload, staffing or equipment related repair problems.
- Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both oral and written.
- Skill to plan, organize and manage time effectively.
- Operates a city vehicle (auto, pickup, or van) computer, typewriter, adding machine, telephone, stepladder and truck dolly.
- Assists other employees in conducting assigned duties and responsibilities as necessary.
- Testifying in court with regards to Property/Evidence.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Performs a variety of physically demanding maneuvers and activities which involves walking, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting, carrying, and safely operating assigned equipment and vehicles. Work under extremes in temperature and all types of weather conditions.
- Knowledge of Administrative Directives, policies and procedures of both the City of Midland and the Police Department.
- Knowledge of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
- Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both oral and written.
- Skill to plan, organize and manage time effectively.
- Works independently in the absence of supervision.
- Basic knowledge of Texas Criminal Laws and Traffic Laws.
- Knowledge of records management and care and custody of Property/Evidence.
- High School graduate or GED equivalent with 1-3 years of experience in field or related field.
- Must be a resident of Midland County at the time of employment.
- Must posses a valid Texas Class "C" driver's license.
- No felony convictions, history of criminal or improper conduct, or poor driving record which may affect suitability for law enforcement work.
- Must maintain necessary physical condition to carry out all essential functions of assignment.
- Must maintain Texas Class "C" driver's license.
- Must meet job performance expectations and substantially meet all standards of performance.
