What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilities Internship - Water Reclamation Facility position at City of Midland?
The Water Reclamation Facility Summer Intern will provide essential support to the Utilities department in various wastewater processing tasks. This role offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in wastewater operations while assisting with day-to-day tasks and projects.
- Learn and prioritize safety procedures
- Learn about professional conduct and dialogue in the workplace
- Learn basic to intermediate problem-solving techniques with plant processes and equipment maintenance
- Learn how to properly interpret gauges and meters
- Learn basic to intermediate information about Preliminary, Primary & Secondary Treatment
- Learn about the benefits of biogas production
- Learn about the dewatering process
- Learn about the different methods and benefits of water reclamation
- Learn the method of RAS/WAS pump operation
- Learn about sample collection and in-house calibrations and laboratory tests such as pH, turbidity, ammonia, E. coli
- Learn about SCADA system to observe conditions, plant operations, and treatment processes
- Solve basic math problems
- Observe operations staff regarding methods of data collection and reporting
- Observe licensed operators with proper sample collection techniques
- Be engaged in Operations meetings for team-building exercises and expanding wastewater treatment knowledge through Q & A sessions
- Assists operations staff with plant landscaping
- Assists operations staff with housekeeping of all buildings including Operations Lab and main office
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to work in person at the designated workplace location.
- Must be available to commute to and work on-site during regular business hours.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Strong interest in learning about Wastewater Treatment and pursuing a career in the field.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and contribute to the team.
Salary : $31,200
