What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer & Rescue Coordinator position at City of Midland?
Under general supervision, recruits, orients, trains, supervises, and manages volunteers for Animal Services. Oversees Placement Partner Program and the transfer of shelter animals to various rescue organizations.
EXAMPLES OF OTHER DUTIES:
Promotes Midland Animal Services Volunteer Program with community groups, citizens, other agencies and other departments. Plans and implements annual volunteer appreciation event. Develops and maintains records of volunteers, positions, and activities. Provides emergency response services as needed. Performs other related duties as required.
Ability to sit, stand, and drive a vehicle to and from various work sites. Employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures. Employee may also work around potentially hazardous chemicals and dangerous animals. Ability to life bags of materials such as dog food or animals.
Employee communicates with other employees in the work group and will respond to questions from the general public regarding ordinances, Animal Services, or animals. Will interact with the public on a daily basis. Employee works with schools and civic organizations in providing information about Animal Services. Employee also contacts outside agencies in order to provide or receive information regarding animal history and placement.Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various work sites. Employee may be exposed to seasonal temperatures while maintaining kennel and grounds, traffic hazards, chemicals, mild acids, detergents and noise. Employee also may be exposed to animal bites and animal transmitted diseases. Ability to lift bags of materials such as dog food, cat litter, or animals regularly.Employee communicates with other employees in the work group and will respond to questions from the general public regarding services or animals that may be in the kennel. Employee may have direct contact with other Animal Services personnel such as the SPCA, various humane societies and animal rescue organizations.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Ability to read and understand manuals and state and other regulations in order to record work activities, complete required records, or provide information to the public. Knowledge of the equipment necessary to restrain animals such as catch poles, trucks, and various traps and cages. Skill in math in order to compute and maintain various records and measure chemicals. Employee develops correspondence with other state and local agencies and maintains records.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to obtain Basic Animal Control Officer Certification within six months of employment. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license.
- Identifies specific volunteer positions, job descriptions, and qualifications and determines numbers of specific positions needed.
- Develops and implements recruitment methods and strategies.
- Reviews volunteer applications, interviews and screens potential volunteers, and determines appropriate placement.
- Designs, coordinates, and conducts orientation and training programs.
- Establishes volunteer schedules, monitors attendance, supervises and evaluates performance, and addresses concerns and issues of volunteers.
- Develops, maintains, and implements volunteer policies and procedures.
- Develops, coordinates, and ensures updated volunteer website information.
- Oversees Placement Partner Program and the transfer of shelter animals to various rescue organizations.
- Assists other animal welfare groups in transferring shelter animals to their organizations.
- Assists with adoption mentoring, placement, and questions.
- Completes performance tracking within Chameleon Software.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
