What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Public Safety Administrator position at City of Midlothian?
Starting Hiring Range: $76,123 - $93,250 annually
Under general direction, this position provides primary support for Public Safety Information Technology systems, including Police and Fire servers. Responsible for maintaining a variety of systems to include: network, server, phone, desktop, laptop, mobile, wireless, and video hardware and software. Interfaces with other City IT staff to maintain city-wide Information Technology systems. - Supports, monitors, tests, and troubleshoots computer hardware and software for the Police and Fire Departments at the City of Midlothian.
- Provides support for onsite network, phone, and server systems as directed.
- Processes IT work orders received from City employees.
- Develops and coordinates ongoing training for new and updated software and hardware packages.
- Coordinates with outside vendors as required.
- Performs research and develops information technology solutions to enhance Police and Fire goals, objectives, and requirements.
- Provides after hour on-call support for emergencies on a rotating basis with other City IT Staff.
- Supports the wider IT Department goals and objectives, which include but are not limited to: supporting, monitoring, testing and troubleshooting city-wide information technology systems.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Working experience or knowledge of Public Safety Information Technology systems a plus.
Education and work experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer and network design and implementation.
- Basic knowledge of principles, practices, and tools used in project management.
- Knowledge and skill in administering and supporting enterprise relational databases, including SQL administration.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft architecture and technology.
- Current knowledge of tools relevant to the Microsoft platforms including monitoring, diagnosis, problem identification, and resolution.
- Expertise in PC hardware, server hardware, and Windows operating systems.
- Expertise in wired and wireless networking concepts, advanced routing protocols, and VLANs.
- Knowledge of current IT Security standards and practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse employee groups.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop professional end user and operations documentation.
- Ability to multitask across concurrent projects utilizing time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage time allocated for tasks.
- Strong drive for continuing education and development of personal IT skills and knowledge.
- Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
Special Requirements
Subject to be on-call during non-working hours.Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, CJIS and fingerprint check, polygraph, and have the ability to comply with state and federal requirements for criminal justice information security standards.
Licenses & Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards.MCITP, A , or CCNA certifications strongly preferred.
Work Environment
Work is performed in climate-controlled office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Occasional travel between city facilities.Physical demands are primarily sedentary. Requires light lifting (up to 10 lbs.), sitting, walking, and standing. Work performed may cause fatigue of eyes and other faculties because of fairly continuous use of motor senses. Good manual dexterity required.
