Starting Hiring Range: $59,701.82 - $73,134.73, annually
The purpose of this position is to manage City funds by maintaining financial records. This is accomplished by performing accounting functions such as balancing and reconciling the general ledger and subledgers, resolving accounting related issues, assisting in the preparation of financial reports, reconciling bank accounts, assisting with the reporting and maintenance of the capital project budget, providing organizational support and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position serves as a lead on certain projects, as assigned.
Three (3) years of full-time accounting and/or budgeting experience is required.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

- Analyzes funds and accounts requiring technical accounting knowledge and extensive analytical skills in order to produce necessary reports, schedules, and journal entries.
- Applies professional judgment in the application of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Recommends updates to accounting controls, policies and procedures.
- Participates in the annual external audit including preparation of year-end analysis and journal entries, preparation of audit work papers, and coordination with auditors on audit procedures. Researches accounting issues for compliance with GASB standards and legal compliance.
- Analyze and reconcile monthly purchase card transactions and determine if they are properly coded and maintained.
- Maintain project accounting records and reconcile to the G/L subledger.
- Coordinate with department staff on regular basis to ensure proper accounting of all capital projects.
- Assist in the preparation of annual ACFR.
- Participates and assists in the annual budget preparation, building the final budget document and researching data for support materials, and assists with updates to the Finance website.
- Acts as department lead for Incode support.
- Provides backup support for reporting deadlines, internal controls and resolution of accounting discrepancies.
- Accountable for recording the cost of newly acquired fixed assets, tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, accounting for the disposition of fixed assets and reconciliation of the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger.
- Regular scheduled attendance at the work site is required.
- All other duties as assigned.
Three (3) years of full-time accounting and/or budgeting experience is required.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of general office procedures.
- Knowledge of general ledger transactions and reconciliation procedures.
- Ability to create and maintain complex spreadsheets in MS Excel.
- Working knowledge of MS Office and various governmental financial reporting systems.
- Ability to research information and assists in the preparation of financial reports.
- Ability to communicate clearly, thoroughly and accurately, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with other City employees, management and public.
- Ability to complete work in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability and knowledge to manage priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
Licenses & Certifications
