What are the responsibilities and job description for the WTP Water Quality Technician position at City of Midlothian?
Starting Hiring Range: $59,701.82 - $73,134.73, annually
Under supervision, this position performs water quality monitoring, testing, and reporting in compliance with TCEQ and USEPA requirements for the City’s water treatment plants and distribution system.
Performs water quality monitoring and compliance in accordance with TCEQ and USEPA directives.
Assists with the operation and/or operating of the water treatment plants.
Performs various laboratory tests and analysis required for effective operation of the water treatment plant.
May respond to any unusual situations at the plant and provides after-hours and weekend emergency phone response for any call outs.
Performs monthly water distribution flushing and daily distribution disinfectant readings.
Performs monthly TOC, SUVA and Chlorite samples.
Responsible for the taking and shipping of any extra required EPA and TCEQ water samples.
Maintains all associated data as required to satisfy all local, state, and federal regulations.
Interacts with various contractors and vendors as appropriate, in addition to City of Midlothian water customers.
Maintains quality records, as needed.
Represents City of Midlothian at community events regarding water treatment processes and plant functions.
Responds to and seeks resolution to customer complaints and inquiries regarding taste, odor, pressure and physical characteristics of the drinking water.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED equivalent, is required.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in water treatment with a basic knowledge of chemistry. Technical training in water treatment field is preferred.
A combination of education and experience may be considered as equivalent.
- Knowledge of chemistry and mathematical principles.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to the treatment and distribution of drinking water.
- Ability to operate lab equipment and perform various chemical and physical laboratory tests.
- Ability to prioritize work and multi-task to include problem solving.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies, industrial clients, and the general public.
- Ability to work in a safe manner.
- Ability to interpret charts and flow diagrams.
- Skill in the use and application of computers and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Ability to operate the Tayman and Auger water treatment plants without supervision.
- Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
Licenses & Certifications
Water Class C (Surface Water) license, is required.
