The Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Recreation Leaders who are enthusiastic problem-solvers, have excellent communicate skills, and provide quality customer service to the community and our residents.

The ideal candidate must be able to multitask in a fast-paced work environment. They must be able to work independently off site and with other co-workers in compliance with City Rules and Regulations. Recreation Leaders may also be invited to work in additional areas including special events and other program areas within the Recreation and Community Services Department.
This position is part of the After the Bell Program and provides support at various elementary school sites. Recreation Leaders work with students in kindergarten through 6th grade for After the Bell and grades 7-9 for LYFE in after school activities, structured games, and homework assistance. Other assignments provide support to the Milpitas Teen Center, leading activities of the same sort with teenage students.

Examples of Duties
Under direct supervision of the Recreation Leader IV, Recreation Leader V and Program Coordinator, Recreation Leaders will lead kindergarten through 6th grade students in activities, games and other recreational activities at various elementary school sites.
Duties include, but are not limited to :
Lead games and activities
Coordinate and implement daily activities
Multitask in a fast-paced work environment
Lead participants, communicate activity objectives and rules clearly and effectively
Provide information and direction to a wide variety of age groups, conduct games and activities following established rules, guidelines, and time limits
Learn, retain and use safety rules and regulations
Provide verbal and summarized written feedback on activities
Supervise students
Work independently off site and with other co-workers in compliance with City Rules and Regulations
Additional duties may include working Recreation Services activities and events as needed.
Typical Qualifications
Must have experience in working with school age children (5-12 years old)
License / s and Other Requirements
Upon selection, onboarding requirements include :
Fingerprint clearance (Department of Justice background check) if eighteen (18) years of age or older
Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR, or obtain certification within 60 days of hire date

Retirement Benefits
Federal law requires that employees who are not members of the City retirement plan (CalPERS) be covered under an alternate retirement plan (PARS).
6% of your salary will be deducted for participation in the PARS plan. The City will also contribute 1.5% of your earnings to your PARS account every pay period.
Paid Time Off
In accordance with State Law, after 90 days, Temporary / Seasonal employees receive 40 hours to use for sick leave.
