Purpose

The Community Violence Prevention Manager leads the implementation of a public health approach to reduce community violence in Milwaukee, overseeing a strategic plan focused on community development and violence reduction.

Essential Functions

PROGRAMMATIC OVERSIGHT / STAFF MANAGEMENT

  • Direct activities by delegating assignments, providing guidance and evaluating performance. Adjust staff assignments based on measured programmatic outcomes.
  • Foster a work environment that is adaptive, diverse and inclusive.
  • Guide data analysis efforts, including related research review, data collection and analysis. Establish key metrics, objectives and activities.
  • Facilitate the development of a long-term, data-informed, evidence-based, or evidence-informed plan for Milwaukee community violence prevention. Set expectations and establish accountability for implementation; revise based on results.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a strategic plan for the Office of Community Wellness and Safety.
  • Lead the design of a city-wide plan to improve community safety and wellness.
  • Identify funding opportunities to support community violence reduction activities.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

  • Facilitate multi-agency and community collaboration; participate in community educational activities.
  • Establish and facilitate the Milwaukee Violence Prevention Partnership Steering Committee, including developing the process and action agenda and identifying outcomes.
  • Facilitate training and community organizing related to implementing the Blueprint for Peace 2.0.
  • Oversee the creation of community stakeholder teams and community planning processes.
  • Lead and support ongoing communication amongst City leaders and other governmental and community organizations, including regular updates on progress and challenges in violence reduction.
  • LEGISLATION / POLICY DEVELOPMENT

  • Advocate for resources and organizational alignment relative to violence prevention.
  • Assist with developing positions on state and federal policies that impact community violence prevention.

    Conditions of Employment

  • Must be willing to work beyond standard business hours to accomplish work and meet departmental needs.
  • Travel outside the City of Milwaukee, including overnight, may be required.
  • Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, social science, criminal justice, sociology, psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience working with multi-disciplinary partners on issues related to high-risk individuals, injury or violence prevention, including one year in a leadership and / or supervisory capacity.
  • Valid driver's license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
  • Use of a properly insured vehicle for us on the job; mileage reimbursement is provided pursuant to Section 350-183 of the Milwaukee Code.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.

    Desirable Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Social Science, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

  • Current Salary

    The current salary range (Pay Range 1GX) is $85,086-98,703 annually, and the resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $87,639- $101,664 annually. Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon experience level and other qualifications and is subject to approval.

    Selection Process

    THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following : an evaluation of education, experience and / or responses to supplemental questions; a written or performance test, a structured interview or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to structured interviews and performance examinations.
