Purpose
Under the direction of the WIC (Women, Infants and Children)Program Manager, the Community Health Nutritionist 1 provides nutritionalassessment and counseling and determines program eligibility for the MilwaukeeHealth Department’s (MHD) WIC participants.
Essential Functions
WIC CERTIFICATION AND CLIENT SERVICES
Complete the WIC certification process, including performing nutritional and breastfeeding assessment using motivational interviewing and person-centered counseling; anthropometric measurement, hemoglobin and lead testing; immunization assessment; and referral to health care providers and community agencies.
- Monitor participant follow up and modify plan of care.
- Determine WIC eligibility by identifying risk factors; issue WIC benefits.
- Complete required documentation in WIC Medical Information System (ROSIE), as outlined in the Wisconsin WIC Operations Manual.
NUTRITION EDUCATION AND REFERRALS
In conjunction with the Health Project Supervisor, assist in nutrition and breastfeeding work plans and other grant-related initiatives.Serve as the nutrition resource for WIC staff, public health staff, dietetic students and the community.Follow the guidelines according to the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and similar standards set forth by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.ADMINISTRATIVE

Conditions of Employment
Employees assigned to the WIC Program will report to any of the City of Milwaukee WIC clinic locations. Assignment may be made on short notice to provide staff coverage during unexpected absences or emergency situations.All WIC staff members participate in a work schedule that includes early evening hours on assigned days. The current hours of work for this position are as follows : M, TU, W, and F, 8 : 00 a.m.-4 : 30 p.m.; TH, 10 : 00 a.m.-6 : 30 p.m.The Community Health Nutritionist 1 must be willing and able to dothe following :
Lift and move 25 pounds, including infants and small children onto measuring apparatus such as scales.Carry a mobile device during business hours.Wear industry-related Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, facemask, or face shield to reduce exposure to infectious agents or toxins while performing the duties of this job.The pre-employment tests include : Physical / lift test Audiogram VisionThe pre-employment vaccines include : TB Test; at time of appointment and annually throughout employment Hep B Vaccine Covid 19 Vaccine MMR Vaccine Varicella VaccineMinimum Requirements
Associate degree from an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)-approved dietetic technician program OR a bachelor’s degree in nutritional sciences, dietetics, or a related field from an accredited college or university.Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics registration as a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) at time of appointment and throughout employment. NOTE : Candidates who possess a related bachelor’s degree as described in #1 above are not required to be DTR certified.Ability to travel independently throughout Milwaukee, either by transit, bicycle, or automobile. The current salary range (Pay Range 3LN) is $59,952-$77,225 annually,and the current incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $61,750-$79,542 annually.Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience andother qualifications and is subject to approval.
