Position Description
Plan, advise and assist operating departments in implementing safety and loss control policies, programs and training designed to promote a safe and healthy work environment that will minimize hazards or risks which may cause personal injury, illness and / or property damage.
Salary
Anticipated starting salary range is : $88,597 - $113,023 / annually, depending on qualifications.
Work Location
This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Survey employee work sites to identify environmental hazards and make appropriate recommendations to correct conditions.
- Prepare and distribute information on Federal / State laws and regulations on occupational safety and health regulations, codes and standards.
- Develop and deliver training and educational programs in response to legal requirements and good loss control practices.
- Assist departments in developing and reviewing programs and procedures to assure compliance with regulations, codes and standards dealing with occupational health and safety.
- Investigate serious injuries or fatalities and property damage.
- Assist in the City's disaster response when requested.
- Consult with State and Federal agencies on problems and issues affecting the City.
- Assist with the collection, analysis and maintenance of accident and injury statistics on City employees through the claims database and develop business analytics.
- Answer questions from employees and the public relating to occupational health and safety issues.
- Consult with and prepare reports for / to the Divisional Director on activities proposed, in process, and completed.
- Consult with outside contacts to exchange information to keep the programs current.
- Chair and coordinate the monthly Safety & Risk Management Committee (SRMC)
- Provide policy development and recommendations, and assist the Director with Divisional functions.
- Oversee the ergonomic assessment program for City employees, including individual consultations.
- Develop Request for Proposals (RFPs) and contracts as defined by Procurement Guidelines, respond to insurance questions from the public and Ccity supervisors.
- Supervise Tort Claims staff and process Subrogation claims.

Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor's Degree in Science, Biology, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health or equivalent
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE :
Two years of professional level experience in occupational health and safety or a highly related area

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Selection Process
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps : a rating of relevant education and experience and / or an oral examination (100%) . It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.
Background Check
The City has determined that a thorough Minneapolis Police Department criminal background check is necessary for positions with this job title. Applicants must sign an informed consent allowing the City to obtain their criminal history information in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be considered for the position.
Drug and Alcohol Testing
All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position.

Eligible List Statement
