Position Description
Review construction documents for residential and commercial construction for conformance to requirements of Minnesota Building Code and City Ordinances and other laws, focusing on the review of commercial projects for compliance with the Minnesota Energy code.
Work Location
This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Review construction documents for proposed new construction, remodeling and additions to ensure compliance with applicable codes, focusing primarily on Minnesota Energy Code provisions.
- Meet with owners, architects, engineers, developers and contractors to provide code guidance for larger or more complex projects.
- Document discussions and decisions accepted for a project.
- Analyze proposals for alternate construction methods or materials, alternates and modifications, making recommendations to supervisor and Building Official.
- Coordinate with other sections of CPED and other departments with regard to
department policy, ordinance changes and compliance matters to prevent substandard or unapproved installations and work towards uniformity of enforcement.

Required Qualifications
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
Required Experience
Five years of progressive responsible technical experience in a position requiring the application of building code knowledge
Licenses / Certifications
Licensed with the State of Minnesota as a Professional Engineer
Selection Process
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps : a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

The City has determined that a criminal background check and / or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Eligible List Statement
