Position Description

  • This position is restricted to current City of Minneapolis employees only

Responsible for coordinating, receiving, stocking and distributing parts and supplies in the Solid Waste & Recycling Division or the Property Services Division.

Work Location : This position currently works on-site only.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all receiving, stocking and distributing of parts & supplies in the assigned division, including liquids, uniforms, gloves, safety glasses, tools, office supplies, and furniture, etc.
  • Responsible for stock area maintenance, cleanliness, and order, and perpetual inventory of specified items.
  • Order, Check, Receive and Distribute tools, parts, and supplies as needed.
  • Develop specifications for various shop supplies, parts, uniforms, gloves, and tools required, and determine quantities needed for an adequate inventory, research cost, and place orders directly with vendors, this includes scoping new equipment and determining the proper parts and supplies to stock verses order for the equipment.
  • When new equipment arrives, determine the proper parts and supplies to stock for this vehicle
  • Issue Personal Protective Equipment (gloves and eyeglasses) along with Uniforms to employees.
  • Responsible for requesting any building maintenance needed in the stockroom.
  • Enter transactions into Comet, M-5, and / or Maximo.
  • Maintain daily inventory, add to inventory and eliminate stock in M-5
  • Maintain appropriate records and make all adjustments as needed.
  • Request requisitions and purchase orders
  • Approve invoices in COMET system.
  • Manage all record keeping functions relating to stockroom activities.
  • Keep records of the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) used in the Division. and act as a liaison with Comply Net.
  • Keep & maintain records of the Hazardous Waste Inventory
  • Assist in budget activity by providing information regarding expenditures for various supplies, parts, and related stock costing information.
  • Supervise others involved in daily stockroom operations as assigned.
  • Working Conditions : Storeroom, Shop Environment, Field. Ability to lift or move up to one hundred (100) pounds.

    Required Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications : High School Diploma or equivalent

    Minimum Experience : Three years of related experience in a computerized stockroom performing duties similar to those listed above

    Equivalency : An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

    Licenses / Certifications : Possess and continue to maintain a valid driver's license.

    Desired Qualifications : Class A or B commercial driver's license

    Selection Process

    The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps : a rating of relevant education and experience 100%. It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score 70% on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

    Background Check

    The City has determined that a criminal background check and / or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and / or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.

    Union Representation

    This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Minneapolis and the Laborers Local #363 (CLB) .     Eligible List Statement

    The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire one month after it has been established.

    Interview Selection

    The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • It is highly recommended that the applicant has experience and knowledge of heavy truck and equipment components and parts such as gas & diesel engines, brakes, body parts, hydraulic systems, propulsion systems to research, source and order required parts.
  • Considerable knowledge of procedures of ordering and procuring supplies and materials.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures with contracts involving vendors and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of perpetual inventory record keeping and systems.
  • Good knowledge of storing and maintenance of materials involving MSDS and storage and management of hazardous materials according to OSHA standards.
  • Knowledge of the proper process for reporting on the processing of hazardous materials.
  • Good knowledge of and ability to maintain records using computer-based accounting and storeroom management systems.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, M-5, Comet and Comet Basket System,
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good math skills.
  • Ability to operate a forklift or similar equipment.
  • Familiarity of Solid Waste collection operations
