General Description: Receive direction and guidance from the Public Works Manager. Responsible for and working along with employees in the guidance and direction of the maintenance, operation, and upgrading of the water and wastewater treatment plant facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs generalized routine maintenance and repair of water plant facilities, plant monitoring, and chemical process equipment. Calibrate, maintain, and repair process monitoring equipment, chart recorders, chlorine chlorinators & analyzers, and future process monitoring equipment. Respond to facility malfunctions, alarms, and emergencies after hours and on weekends, respond to customer complaints & resolve customer issues. Maintain proper appearance inside and outside of water facilities, and all related equipment as may be required.
  • Implementing policies and procedures as directed, training, evaluating, and compiling reports. Independently plans, organizes, and implements projects to maintain system integrity. Maintain accurate maintenance logs, operational records, and submit reports as required by FDEP.
  • Monitors water treatment processes including operation of chemical and physical processes.
  • Monitors and operates SCADA control systems.
  • An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for a 24 hour/7 days per week operation with the ability to plan, coordinate, and schedule work activities to ensure the Plant produces the highest quality products most cost-effectively. The ability to perform periodic inspections of the facilities and equipment is necessary to ensure the plant is operating properly — monitor and inspect the treatment processes and equipment using technical and administrative skills.
  • Evaluate system performance; make adjustments to chemical feed equipment, well pumps, and high service pumps as may be required for efficient operation, and to ensure safe quality drinking water to our customers. Responsible for scheduling and completion of all required water quality sampling and maintaining compliance.
  • Make recommendations for treatment techniques, and equipment upgrades, have a general knowledge of the best available technologies through reading journals, and attend training classes as may be required.
  • Prepares and discusses weekly work schedules and monthly FDEP reports, SJ RWMD EN-50, annual water usage/water loss reports, consumer confidence reports, and all other related reports as necessary. Prepare project estimates, equipment upgrades, and new equipment and maintenance requests for budget preparation.
  • Responsible for sampling plans, and routine collection of required water samples, coordinated with approved laboratory, and maintained compliance monitoring reporting and records keeping as specified by FDEP. Read articles in journals and publications related to water treatment and maintain current status on new treatment processes, operations, and regulatory changes.
  • Performs administrative and clerical tasks such as obtaining price quotes, processing invoices, purchase requisitions, and purchase orders or other payment requests. Verify cost, and terms, and approves payments for materials, supplies, and chemicals for all inside and outside work performed by others.
  • Implements safety procedures including but not limited to; D.O.T. traffic work zone safety, traffic cones, signage, and barricades. Training, usage, and maintenance of the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Respiratory Protection Program, and Chlorine Emergency Repair KlT "A” for 150 lbs. cylinders.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, on-call duties, and extended hours during emergencies and natural disasters.

Minimum Requirement:

-High School Diploma or GED.

-A valid State of Florida Class “B” Certified in Water Treatment Operation.

· Minimum of five (2) years of work experience in treatment plants.

-Must have a good working knowledge of all materials, equipment, methods, safety techniques, and regulatory.

-Requirements that may be required to complete all tasks in the maintenance and operation of Water Treatment Facilities.

-Specialized courses/training in OSHA Standards, Confined Space Procedures, Chlorination repair and maintenance, SCADA Systems, FDEP reporting, and compliance requirements, and SJRWMD requirements.

-Certified in Confined Space Entry.

-Must have the ability to give and take oral/written instructions; and communicate with fellow employees, supervisors, and customers within the city.

-Valid Florida Driver’s License.

-Must reside within twenty-five (25) miles from Minneola’s city limits.

Physical Requirements:

Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable eyesight includes, but not limited to depth perception, close, distance, peripheral, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).

Acceptable dexterity in fingers and hands.

Ability to access, input, and retrieve information and data from a computer.

Ability to twist, reach, bend, stoop, lift, and climb stairs.

Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry between fifty (50) to seventy-five pounds (75).
