Job Description
This highly responsible supervisory and managerial position works closely with the Recreation Director to oversee the daily operations of the Williston Fitness Center. This position manages, plans and organizes all daily, weekly, monthly & annual activities and operations of the Williston Fitness Center and its employees. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate, and motivate full-time, part-time, seasonal and volunteer Williston Center staff.

Directly supervise and evaluate the performance of six full-time employees:
- Operations Manager
- Program and Membership Manager
- Guest Services Manager
- Fitness Manager
- Tennis Program Manager
- Maintenance Technician
- Supervise seasonal and part-time Williston Center staff as needed.
- Motivate and guide the team to achieve high levels of performance and provide exceptional service to members and guests.

Directly supervise and evaluate the performance of six full-time employees:

Assist in the management and administration of the Williston Center membership system.
- Monthly billing for all membership dues.
- Reporting and management of all fitness reimbursement programs.

Prepare, implement and monitor operational and capital budgets. Assure that revenue and expenditure projections are met.
- Review and evaluate existing programs, schedules and services offered at the Center on a continuing basis to determine their effectiveness.
- Makes recommendations on additions, deletions, and modifications of the Center’s programs and services.
- Prepare and administer contracts for products, programs, and providers for the Center.

Ensure exceptional customer service with a focus on member retention
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all members, addressing any concerns or feedback.
- Monitor member satisfaction and implement strategies to retain members.
- Develop and coordinate classes, programs, events and amenities to meet the need of the community.

Maintain a strong relationship with the public, City staff, civic groups, and local businesses.
- Coordinates scheduling of Center facilities and activities with the public, other departments, community groups, contracted users, and schools.
- Communicates in-person or via phone in a timely manner with customers or prospective users regarding use of the facility (information, scheduling, etc.), concerns, and complaints.

Communicates with representatives of the following:
- Citizen groups and civic organizations
- Current and prospective facility users
- City of Minnetonka departments
- Local school districts
- Membership liaison with surrounding communities
- Oversee building maintenance to assure safety, cleanliness and proper operation of the Center. Inform Facilities Manager and Recreation Director about all important matters, which require attention or action.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and licensing requirements
- Enforce facility rules and regulations to ensure safety and comfort for all members.
- Maintains and upgrades membership software system as necessary.
- Promotes and markets the various components of the Center keeping informed of new trends or techniques in facility management.
- Performs other duties as needed or apparent.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A commitment to and belief in the organizations shared values.
- Four-year degree in Recreation, Management, Public Administration, Business, or related field.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with budgeting and financial management.
- Two-years of facility management experience with at least one year related to fitness management.
- Experience in hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising full-time, part-time and seasonal employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City officials, employees, civic groups, and the public.
- Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Three or more years of fitness facility management experience.
- Extensive knowledge of fitness center operations and/or fitness background.
- Experience working with RecTrac software.
- Experience in personal training, fitness programming, equipment orientations and equipment maintenance.
- Certified pool operator license.

- The principles, objectives, operations and equipment needed to effectively manage a community based fitness center.
- Budgeting and accounting practices required to oversee all revenue and expenditures.
- Technology software needed to perform daily activities and facility operations.
- Customer service, crisis management and conflict resolution associated with facilities management.
- Plan, organize, coordinate and supervise the work of subordinates.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City officials and employees, civic groups, other government agencies, and the public.
- Clearly communicate ideas, recommendations, instructions and explanations, both orally and in writing.
