Work together alongside an additional Coordinator to oversee multiple local park locations for this program. This position oversees all aspects of supervision, planning, preparation, and leading of the entire Park Adventures program.  Acts as indirect supervisor to all program staff (12-15).
This position must be able to start mid-May for program prep.

Programs take place at a variety of locations throughout the Hopkins and Minnetonka area. Program dates are June 16-Aug 7. No program June 30th – July 4th. Aug 9th is the end of program carnival that this position will be required to assist with.  The schedule is Monday-Friday, 9 a.m-4 p.m. (Fridays are half days for prep).  

  • Assist in development, organization, and supervision of park sites in Hopkins/Minnetonka and their activities let by other program staff (i.e. arts and crafts, sports, group games and theme related activities).
  • Visit all program locations on a regular basis to evaluate staff and activities, monitor registrations, and make appropriate recommendations and changes as needed.
  • Plan and lead a unique themed activity at all park sites each week.
  • Must be able to prepare/attend/facilitate program staff training May 31st and an additional staff training in early June.
  • Must be able to complete program prep work starting in Mid-May.
  • Leads and indirectly supervises about 12-15 program leaders.
  • Assist in training, scheduling and completing staff evaluations throughout summer.
  • Determine, organize, and deliver equipment and supplies needed for all phases of the programs.
  • Maintain and account for equipment/site upkeep and clean-up/return at the end of the season.
  • Maintain proper communication with Program Manager.
  • Good common sense, safety conscious, reliable, assertive, self-starter.
  • Complete all required paperwork and other office work related to program.
  • Plan and lead weekly Park Adventures staff meetings on Friday mornings.
  • Serve as a substitute Park Adventures site lead/leader as needed.
  • Enforce all policies, rules and regulations established by the Program Manager and Hopkins-Minnetonka Recreation Services.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Program Manager.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
  • A commitment to and belief in the organization's shared values.
  • High school degree or equivalent GED completed.
  • Must be available entire season with very limited time off requests.
  • College age or older (18 ) with coursework in education, recreation or related field.
  • One year experience with planning and leading youth sports, crafts, outdoor and recreational activities.
  • Good common sense and problem solving skills, safety conscious, reliable, assertive, and a self-starter all with limited supervision.
  • One year experience in a supervisory and/or direct leadership role.
  • Organizational skills and ability to follow detailed instructions asked.
  • Ability to work independently and have excellent problem solving skills.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
 
Desired Job Qualifications:
  • Completed degree in education, recreation or related field with at least 6 months experience in the field.
  • At least 6 months experience with lesson plan development.
  • A creative mind and assertive personality to plan, lead and implement recreational activities.
  • CPR and first aid certification.
  • Outdoor recreation experience.
  • Experience pulling a trailer (i.e. may use a city vehicle to transport program supplies/small trailer to different locations.)
