What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Adventures Site Lead position at City of Minnetonka?
This position manages all activities including planning, organizing and leading activities for children ages 5-12 at various assigned park locations. Site Lead staff will ensure weekly themes, sports, arts and crafts and group games are all carried out by program leaders according to program manager's expectations. These staff will lead one morning park and one afternoon park each day. Site Lead staff will also serve as lead counselors for the three weeks of Jidana Day Camp. The program dates are June 16 to August 7. No program June 30th – July 4th. Saturday, Aug 9th is an end of program carnival this position will be required to assist with. The schedule is Monday through Thursday (Friday is half day for prep each week), 30-32 hours per week. |
- Must be able to attend staff training prior to program start (May 31st) and an additional staff training in early June (date TBD).
- Plans, organizes and directs all activities at a specific park site in cooperation with program leaders and according to program expectations.
- Ensures all staff and program participants follow the established policies and procedures at assigned sites.
- Plans and prepares weekly calendar of activities and collect daily attendance reports with support of program leaders.
- Communicates regularly with Program Manager and Program Coordinators
- Responsible for preparation, submitting and reviewing of all reports required for participants, staff, incidents and property damage and submitting to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Enforces all policies, rules and regulations established by Program Manager and Hopkins-Minnetonka Recreation Services.
- Required to be physically active while on duty and participate in all group activities with the participants.
- Attends and participates in all weekly staff meetings (Tentatively Friday mornings).
- Ensure that safety precautions are taken in all activities.
- Be familiar with and carry out emergency and accident procedures.
- Set up and clean up activity area including building and grounds.
- Supervise participants using positive discipline while maintaining an informal, orderly and safe atmosphere.
- Completes all other duties as assigned by Program Manager and Coordinators.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be available the entire season with very limited time off requests.
- A commitment to and belief in the organization's shared values.
- One (1) or more years of experience working or volunteering with children and youth (including planning and leading recreational activities with preschool and elementary age youth including physical activity, sports, indoor/outdoor games, team building, arts & crafts, etc.)
- One (1) or more years of direct leadership or supervisory experience with youth and/or peers.
- Ability to be creative and possess assertive personality to plan, delegate and implement activities.
- Ability to work and communicate with a wide variety of ages and including parents/guardian.
- Supervisory experience among peers or others.
- One year or more of college and relevant coursework (i.e. education, recreation, etc.).
- Lesson planning experience.
- Experience working in community recreation or education programs.
