The Recreation Program Instructor positions assist in the development and delivery of safe and effective opportunities for physical fitness and recreation to the community through teaching adult and youth specialty sports and exercise classes/lessons.

The Recreation Program Instructor positions assist in the development and delivery of safe and effective opportunities for physical fitness and recreation to the community through teaching adult and youth specialty sports and exercise classes/lessons.
Instructors coach lessons for both youth and adults.
Training starts June 2nd.
Lessons Run Jun 16-Aug 13th Monday - Thursday
8:30am-11:45pm and
5-8pm
- Plan, organize, evaluate, and lead classes/lessons within specified program.
- Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations on sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise equipment; instruct participants with varied fitness and skill levels; perform emergency first aid.
- Inspect and set up sports and fitness equipment; observe all participants to ensure safety.
- Demonstrate and/or explain how to perform various exercises, routines, and techniques to minimize injuries and improve fitness and performance.
- Monitor participants techniques and progress to ensure proper form and adapt program as needed.
- Provide options during class/lesson to help participants feel successful.
- Maintain and organize various paperwork, schedules, and other required resources.
- Promote positive sportsmanship and stewardship towards all recreation facilities (indoor and outdoor) for participants and spectators.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in recreational sports and fitness activities.
- Knowledge of rules and strategies of specified program with the ability to interpret and apply City adapted rules and regulations.
- Skill in promoting positive and safe environments.
- Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
- Ability to effectively break instructions down to specific skills and techniques with patience and tact.
- Ability to lead and work with both adults and youth of all ages.
- Ability to effectively meet and communicate with the public and deescalate stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain and exhibit integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to maintain and foster a culture of professionalism, adhere to departmental and City standards and specifications, and support a positive team environment.
- Ability to accept criticism and resolve conflicts with facilitating outcomes while maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Ability to learn departmental and City of Missoula practices and procedures.
- Positions require the ability to lift 50 lbs. or less.
- Work environment may involve occasional exposure to unavoidable seasonal weather conditions.
- Any combination of training and experience with leading sports or fitness programs.
- Must be of legal age to perform the duties of the position.
- Must have CPR/First Aid & AED certifications.
