What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant City Attorney I position at City of Missouri City?
This is a professional staff, full-time on-site position in the City’s Legal Division. An individual in this position will provide legal services to the City of Missouri City as directed by the City Attorney.

- Support the mission, vision, credo, goals, and code of ideals (service, professionalism, integrity, respect, innovation, and teamwork) of the City of Missouri City and the Legal Division;
- Prepare briefs and render advice on Texas Public Information Act requests;
- Provide competent legal advice to various departments and personnel;
- Attend various board meetings as assigned;
- Recommend, draft, and implement policy changes as needed;
- Conduct legal research;
- Draft and review contracts, ordinances, resolutions, deeds, policies, procedures, and similar documents;
- Assist in the coordination and preparation of items for consideration by various boards, commissions and the City Council;
- Perform prosecutor's duties, including performing arraignments, bench trials and jury trials; drafting and reviewing complaints and motions, as assigned; review investigatory reports; interview complainants and witnesses; and confer with police, detectives, the District Attorney and others, as necessary;
- Maintain knowledge of new laws and changes in existing laws; analyze legal information to form a basis for opinion; and check the accuracy and authenticity of research;
- Perform legal work in a variety of areas of municipal law, including, budget and fiscal management; constitutional law, economic development, elections and voting rights, ethics and professionalism, labor and employment, land use, and legislative consulting;
- Perform other duties as assigned; and
- Subject to 24-hour recall (i.e. advise City Council and staff during natural disasters
