What are the responsibilities and job description for the Detention Officer position at City of Missouri City?
This is a full-time (Service Workers) position in the City's Police Department. An individual in this position will be responsible for guarding inmates in the City's Municipal Jail in accordance with established policies, regulations, and directed procedures. Reporting relationship: Detention Officer Supervisor.
- Monitor conduct of prisoners, according to established policies, regulations and directed procedures, to maintain order and safety; inspect conditions of locks, window bars, grills, doors, and gates;
- Search prisoners, cells for weapons or other prohibited items; Maintain surveillance of individuals or establishments.
- Record information, such as prisoner identification, charges, and incidences of inmates disturbance;
- Conduct fire, safety, and sanitation inspections;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Subject to 24-hour call.
High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate and a minimum of two (2) years professional experience or closely related field preferred.
Must hold or be eligible to hold a Texas Basic Jailer Proficiency Certificate as defined by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within one (1) year of employment.
The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
Salary : $38,391 - $47,989
