The City of Modesto is currently recruiting for After School Program Leaders to join our team. The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department works closely with the community providing programming to youth, seniors and all citizens. As a department, we take our work seriously, but try not to take ourselves too seriously. Essential Functions:
Maintain clear, effective and timely communication and collaborative working relationship with supervisory staff.
Supervise program participants.
Supervise and maintain an appropriate student to staff ratio.
Promote and ensure a safe and positive environment for all program participants.
Provide academic assistance to program participants.
Plan and implement site curriculum and recreational and enrichment activities.
Utilize positive guidance techniques and appropriate behavior support for program participants; adhere and enforce all rules consistently and equitably.
Monitor and report any observations or concerns regarding the needs and problems of participants to supervisory staff.
Assist in daily set-up and cleanup; maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for participants.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City and School District employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.
Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
Marginal Functions:
Perform other related duties as assigned.
CPR and First aid methods and procedures.
State of California curriculum based on Common Core Standards.
Positive discipline and redirection techniques.
Practices and techniques to achieve group cooperation in recreation programs.
Instructional techniques and strategies.
Light custodial maintenance techniques.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Volunteer or paid work experience with children is desirable.
Training:
Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
Completion of forty-eight (48 units) of higher education or successfully pass a local assessment of knowledge or skills that demonstrates the equivalent of the above requirements.
Licenses/Certificates:
- Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate
- Certifications must have an in-person, instructor-led skills session with hands and breaths training.
Additional Requirements:
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Tuberculosis clearance by time of appointment.
May require some holiday and evening work assignments.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Mobility: frequent performance moderate manual labor; frequent sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time; occasional bending, twisting, kneeling or squatting. Lifting: frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Vision: constant use of overall vision. Dexterity: frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person. Emotional/ Psychological: frequent coworker contact; occasional working alone. Environmental: occasional exposure to loud noises and large groups of people.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Conditions will vary depending on assignment. Work may also be performed in a typical outdoor environment on a year-round basis subject to street or field noise and year round weather conditions. Duties may include some recreation-related field noise. Work often occurs at remote locations. Positions may require some overtime and weekend work and travel is rare.
