This is an hourly position, limited to working approximately 19 hours per week or 1000 hours annually, whichever comes first. This position is non-benefited and is designated as a non-classified, at-will position. 
 
Assignments could include: Parking Enforcement Officer, Parking Facility Attendant, Parking Facility Maintenance, and/or Cashier duties.

Essential Functions:
 
Calculate and collect parking fees at various City parking facilities in the downtown area.

Collect money from customers and provide proper change to customers; deposit receipts.

Enforce parking regulations, ordinances, and laws that pertain to on-street parking and off street parking.

Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of off street parking facilities.

Patrol an assigned route of City streets and parking lot facilities, utilizing a three-wheel motorized vehicle, automobile, bicycle, or on foot, to identify and cite vehicles in violation of parking codes.

Provide directions to public buildings, parks, transportation facilities, and other general locations to the public.

Operate a variety of equipment and devices including an electronic ticket writing system, department issued Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) device, or other electronic equipment or devices.

Observe and report faulty parking meters and report need for repair or maintenance of parking facilities.

Report urgent problems or unusual occurrences to supervisor and act in accordance with instructions received.

Maintain records, forms, and reports and secure confidential documents related to work performed.

Perform basic troubleshooting on garage equipment.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
 
Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.

Make decisions concerning parking transactions.

Perform basic arithmetic.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
 
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
 
Experience and Training Guidelines:
 
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
 
Some work experience in cash handling, customer service, and/or retails sales is desirable.
 
Training:
 
Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for acceptable job performance, including the ability to follow and to interpret written instructions and to perform basic arithmetic.
 
License or Certificate:
 
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
 
Additional Requirements:
 
Minimum of 18 years of age at time of appointment.
 
Candidates are subject to an extensive background investigation including live scan fingerprinting
Mobility: frequent standing or sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending or squatting. Lifting: frequently up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 25 pounds. Vision:  constant use of overall vision; frequent reading and close-up work; occasional color and depth vision. Dexterity:  frequent repetitive motion; frequent writing; frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking. Emotional/Psychological: frequent decision-making and concentration; frequent public and/or coworker contact; occasional working alone. Environmental: frequent exposure to noise.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Conditions will vary depending on assignment. Work may also be performed in a typical outdoor environment on a year-round basis subject to street or field noise and year-round weather conditions. Duties may include some recreation-related field noise. Work often occurs at remote locations. Position may require occasional overtime, holiday, evening, or weekend work and travel is rare.
