What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Crossing Guard position at City of Moline, IL?
** Regular (before and/or after school) positions as well as Alternate (call as needed) positions available. **
Under general supervision of the Traffic Police Sergeant, directs traffic in conjunction with the safe movement of children to and from school; limited to those hours when school is opening, recessing, or closing. Alternates are on call to fill in as needed.
Control children using the crossing to assure they conform to traffic regulations.
Control vehicular traffic at designated crossing to allow children to cross safely.
Wear reflective safety vest and utilize hand-held stop sign to ensure high visibility.
Report flagrant traffic violators to police department.
Other duties may be assigned.
Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent; or some work experience and completion of a standard grade school course. Valid Illinois driver's license or equivalent required for School Crossing Guard III (Lead).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Illinois traffic laws and regulations.
Ability and willingness to work effectively with children; react quickly to oncoming traffic; follow oral and written instructions; courteously and tactfully deal with the public. Must have access to reliable transportation. Regular and punctual attendance required.
