Description and Terms of Employment
Monona Parks & Recreation offers summer camps for kids in grades 4K-4. Counselors-in-training (CITs) assist camp instructors and counselors in any or all areas of camper care and instruction. The CIT position also provides leadership growth opportunities through planning, goal setting, and generating enthusiasm for camp activities. CITs will receive First Aid & CPR certification training through the American Red Cross. All CIT applicants should be interested in working with children and possess maturity, flexibility, a strong work ethic, and the ability to have fun.
This position requires the ability to work 15-25 hours a week; shifts are scheduled Monday-Friday between the hours of 7 : 30-5 : 30. Wednesday field trip shifts will be an 8-10 hour shift. Mandatory Training dates are June 12-13th. Camp dates are June 16th-August 22nd; Priority for shifts will be given to staff who are available all 10 weeks of camp.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers ages 4-10.
- Acts as a role model to campers; in attitude, behavior, and sportsmanship. They will set a good example to campers and others with general camp procedures and practices.
- Regularly checks in with leadership counselor throughout the week and works towards goals given by counselors and leadership staff.
- Participates in the development and implementation of program activities.
- Leads and assists with the teaching of activities.
- Enthusiastically participates in any assigned areas.
- Maintains high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
- Assures that campers are properly supervised at all times.
- Participates in all-day field trips on Wednesdays.
- Helps campers resolve conflicts.
- Helps counselors sign children in and out, and maintain ratio.
- Befriends campers and helps them build peer friendships.
- Helps with snack breaks - and with clean up.
- Maintains clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff and participants.
- Participates enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to campers and counselors.
- Participates as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise all-camp activities and camp functions.
- Performs other duties as they arise.
