Under the general direction of the Aquatic Director and supervision of the pool managers and head lifeguards, Monona Pool lifeguards ensure the safety of all pool patrons.This is a limited-term, seasonal (summer) position beginning in June and ending in August. Hours for this position will vary from 15-40 per week and will include days, evenings, and weekends. Wage Schedule: 1st year guard - $12.50/hour2nd year guard - $14.50/hour3rd year guard - $17.50/hour4th year guard - $20.00/hour
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.Ensures the health, safety and welfare of those using the Monona Community PoolSupervises the activities of pool patrons by enforcing rules and regulationsPerforms pool maintenance and facility cleaning dutiesResponds to emergency situations; administers first aid and primary care as neededAssists the public as necessary by providing program information, answering public inquiries, handling or referring complaints, posting notices and interpreting pool rules and policiesAttends all mandatory in-service trainings as required by the Aquatic Director
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Must have working knowledge of the principles and practices of Lifeguard Training, CPR and First AidMust be a proficient swimmerMust be able to recognize visual and audible cues in order to identify swimmers in distress or in the process of unsafe behaviorsMust be able to remain alert and attentive to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for varying lengths of timeMust be able to react to emergency situations with quick movements and strenuous activity, including being able to assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.Must be able to effectively communicate with the general public and pool staffMust be able to identify problems and determine when supervisor intervention is neededMust be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including high heat, humidity, and direct sunMust be able to work with moderate to loud background noise
