What are the responsibilities and job description for the AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM AIDE-PART TIME position at City of Monroe (NC)?
Performs general support work assisting with after school and summer day camp program activities; does related work as required. Weekly hours will vary with a maximum average of 19 hours per week. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Recreation Center Supervisor.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and noise. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Assisting with the after school program; transporting program participants to facility; providing participants with tutoring and homework help. Drives van to pick up enrollees at school and for special trips; ensures safety procedures and adhered to and accounts for all passengers. Supervises children enrolled in after school activities at a recreation center; participates in program planning and evaluation. Assists with activities such as arts and crafts, drama, nature study, indoor games, sporting contests, table games and special events. Assists with snack time; washes cups and cleans area when required. Provides tutoring and assists children with homework. Performs general maintenance work as required. Collects money and fees from program participants. Keeps records of program attendance .Performs related tasks as required.
Some knowledge of the methods and practices of community recreation work including knowledge of the equipment and techniques, relevant rules and regulations of social, artistic, craft and/or athletic programs for children; ability to instruct common recreational activities; ability to enforce rules and regulations and maintain discipline; ability to manage a large number of children and groups; ability to prepare and maintain records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, program participants and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, attending high school or work permit. Some experience in recreational programming is preferred.
Possession of CPR and basic first aid certifications required within 6 months of employment is preferred.
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Must be 16 years of age or older. To transport participants in van must be 18 years of age or older.
