What are the responsibilities and job description for the FACILITIES MAINTENANCE WORKER I - PROPERTY MANAGMENT - PART TIME position at City of Monroe (NC)?
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
Maintaining and repairing City park grounds, cemeteries, playing fields, cemeteries, equipment and facilities. Performs a variety of maintenance tasks including preparing, renovating and maintaining athletic playing fields, repairing machinery and equipment, chipping tree limbs and brush, removing stumps and maintaining park facilities. Replaces light bulbs and fixtures; repairs urinals and commodes. Performs janitorial duties in park restrooms. Repairs water fountains. Repairs and installs playground equipment and fences. Performs maintenance and repair task involving plumbing, electrical, and mechanical. Removes trash from facilities and maintains surrounding grounds. Trims and plants trees, shrubs, and flowers; fertilizes and seeds. Mows grass, weed-eats and related grounds keeping tasks. Maintains cemeteries and parks. Sets up for and break down equipment after special events. Maintains athletic field irrigation systems. Opens and closes park for weekend rentals. Performs related tasks as required
General knowledge of maintenance methods and practices; general knowledge of grass maintenance techniques; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to operate tools and equipment safely; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and moderate experience in the performance of grounds maintenance and repair work.
May require Pesticide Applicator’s License depending on assignment.
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Weekly schedules vary between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with up to 40 hours per week based on need subject to adjust slightly due to weather. This is a seasonal position typically beginning in May and ending in August.
