This is medium work requiring the exertion of 75 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms’ length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils.
Performs skilled Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) related work in the alteration, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems to ensures compliance with building codes applicable to the HVAC trade; coordinates with assigned supervisor and other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently. Diagnoses failures in heating and air conditioning systems for identifying equipment, systems repair and replacement needs. Provides status on work orders and complies with building and safety regulations. Installation of heating and air conditioning equipment and systems in new and existing facilities. Monitors HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventative maintenance. Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC units. Repairs heating and air conditioning systems and components that can include pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.. Requests equipment and supplies and maintains inventory to ensure the availability of related items for necessary installation or repair. Keeps daily logs and records of all maintenance functions. Responsible for keeping the service truck in good order, both mechanically and the parts stored inside of the truck. Responds to emergencies during or after hours to ensure immediate resolution of emergency items. Performs related tasks as required.
Through knowledge related to the materials, methods and tools used in HVAC maintenance including appropriate codes; health and safety regulations and procedures. Ability to perform a variety of complex technical HVAC work, including the installation, repair and maintenance of systems; perform preventative maintenance of HVAC equipment and systems. Skillfully and safely operate a variety of equipment and power and hand tools used in the HVAC field; troubleshoot HVAC system problems and determine materials, costs, and supplies required for repairs and maintenance projects; apply and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations; knowledge of the safety hazards of the work and necessary safety precautions. maintains accurate logs, records and basic written records of work performed; read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, plans, manuals, diagrams, blue prints and technical regulations Ability to understand oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with associates and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED and minimal experience in heating and air conditioning repair.
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Possession of a North Carolina Commercial Refrigeration License or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Completion of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning coursework with journeyman-level experience.
