What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Department Part-Time Laborer position at City of Monroe?
This part-time laborer position performs a variety of tasks such as maintenance and care of park and recreation grounds, facilities, and equipment. Duties include but not limited to park cleanup, mowing, trimming, tree planting, landscaping, and general maintenance. This position reports to the Park Supervisor/City Forester. The position is part-time with a rotating schedule, 18-25 hours per week, April through October.

- Involved with construction phases of park and facility development such as new shelters, roofing projects, masonry work, playground and park equipment.
- Maintains grounds, athletic, recreational and park facilities, including buildings and shelters, swimming pool, playground equipment, snow removal, grass areas, etc.
- Assists with tree planting, trimming and removal; seeding, fertilizing and sodding of grass areas; maintaining areas with shrubs and flowers.
- Prepares and paints park and recreation facilities and equipment such as picnic tables, benches, buildings, etc.
- Performs inspections on vehicles and equipment prior to use to ensure safe conditions exist for use.
- Responsible for adherence to safety rules and regulations.
- Will operate all department vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Will be involved with and responsible for basic mechanical maintenance of equipment.
- Does related work as required.

- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and techniques used in the building trades.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment and techniques used in the maintenance of grounds, athletic, recreational, and park facilities.
- Knowledge of tree work and the maintenance of shrubs, flowers, and grass areas.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of mechanical tools and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
- Mows grass, pulls weeds, and any other landscaping as assigned.
- Assists with special event preparations.
- Performs minor preventative maintenance and/or cleanup on a variety of equipment and vehicles.

Education/Training/Certifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, or one to three years related experience and/or training;
- Experience in construction and/or building and grounds maintenance, or
- Any combination of training and experience which will provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform adequately as a park laborer worker.
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
