The City of Monte Vista is accepting applications for a seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker. This is a seasonal position for approximately 16 weeks, 40 hours per week. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Assist with the responsibility for turf maintenance and aeration; performs herbicide, pesticide and fertilizer application.
- Responsible for inspecting, repairing, routine maintenance, and replacement of irrigation systems. Including winterization, installation, modification, and improvement duties.
- Cleans restroom, empties trash and replenishes supplies.
- Performs regular maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Prepares Parks facilities for events and performs cleanup duties after the event.
- Performs outside grounds maintenance including trash pickup, mowing, weeding, spraying, watering, sweeping and parking lot care.
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by City ordinance and/or Street Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and operating requirements for facility, vehicle and equipment maintenance and use.
- Ability to safely operate commercial mowing and weeding machines.
- Ability to set priorities, plan and execute.
- Skills in utilizing problem-solving strategies.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Knowledge of current technological capabilities and applications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other organizations and the general public.
- Maintain a safe working environment and support the loss control objectives of the City.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Minimum Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent
Job Requirements:
· Requires a valid Driver License; to operate City equipment and/or vehicles, including the appropriate endorsements
· Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening and drug test (including marijuana)
Special Training or Experience:
· Training in turf care and maintenance; application of herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers; irrigation system operation and maintenance including pump, electrical and lighting systems.
· Must be able to work hours outside of normal business hours for city events; Stampede, parades etc.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
Must have the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sound, communicate clearly and effectively; understand and be understood; be able to consistently engage in conversation. The noise level is moderately to very loud.
The work environment for this position primarily involves outdoor settings and may include exposure to various weather conditions and frequent changes in environmental conditions. The essential duties of the role are physically demanding and often require work in areas that may be unclean; public restrooms, trash etc., and may be challenging to access. Noise can be moderate to loud with outdoor exposure to nearby traffic, crowds and lawn equipment. Hand-eye coordination is essential for operating various types of lawn maintenance equipment including spraying mechanisms/applicators.
