Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

  • A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason thisclassification exists is to provide clerical and paraprofessional support tolibrarians. Major work responsibilitiesinclude : performing circulation duties; serving patrons and the public;performing collection maintenance activities; and performing miscellaneousduties. Library Assistant Is differ fromLibrary Assistant IIs in that IIs are expected to act in the place of absentstaff, including librarians, in various branches throughout the librarysystem. Library Assistant Is aretypically assigned to one branch and / or department at a time and work under thedirect supervision of a librarian.Library Assistant Is report directly to a librarian.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and six months library pageexperience shelving books in a library branch. Note : Qualifying education, training andexperience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities toperform the job will be considered.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the  Montgomery City County Public Library . Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely, providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If qualified applications are received that exceed the number of vacancies, a selection device will be used to rank the qualified applicants on the eligible register and tied scores will not be broken. If qualified applications are received that is less than the number of vacancies, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
