Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

  • A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classificationexists is to operate and perform preventive maintenance and skilled repair workof fuel sites at various city locations and to perform repair and maintenanceof automotive shop support equipment. Employee operates and maintains thepetroleum service truck to include daily servicing and dispensing of petroleumproducts to all automobiles, trucks, and heavy off-road equipment. Work responsibilitiesinclude ordering petroleum and alternative fuel products, servicing all city-ownedvehicles, maintaining daily records of all petroleum products, equipmentserviced and monthly records of fuel, and servicing, repairing, and rebuildingliquid fuel dispensers, pumps, piping, valves, vapor recovery systems, andspecial equipment. The employee has considerable independent responsibility formaintaining an adequate supply of petroleum products and departmental supplies.Employees in this classification report to the Petroleum MaintenanceSuperintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and one(1) year experience in petroleum equipment service and repair or anotherrelated mechanical repair field.

NOTE : Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisiteknowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Class B and a Hazardous Material and Tanker Endorsements within six (6)months after hire in order to drive hazardous material vehicles. Must possess and maintain a valid state Alabama driver's license. Must be willing to be on call, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Kind of Examination

The current vacancy is with the  City of Montgomery Fleet Management Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
