Nature of Work
The fundamental reasonthis classification exists is inspect residential and commercial structures andlots for compliance with, International Property Maintenance Code, ordinancesand related regulations and requirements. Employees in this class performspecialized work functions associated with enforcing International PropertyMaintenance Codes and City of Montgomery codes and ordinances pertaining todeteriorated, dilapidated, and unsanitary conditions, the accumulation oflitter, junk, trash, stagnant water and abandoned vehicles on residential lotshazardous to the public’s health and safety. Although employees receive assistanceon new or difficult inspections, most field work is performed independently andrequires technical discretion and judgment in inspecting a variety of projects.The work responsibilities include performing interior / exterior inspections;inspecting properties such as lots and other parcels of land within the Citylimits for compliance with City codes, ordinances, and council resolutions;coordinating abatement of weeds and nuisance on vacant lots and other premises;accepting additional assignments and performs additional duties as required.The work is subject to periodic inspection and review by the Chief PropertyMaintenance Inspector.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E. D. Five (5) years’ experience in theconstruction, renovation, maintenance, or inspection of residential orcommercial buildings including one (1) year of experience in a leadershipcapacity. NOTE : Qualifying education, training and experiencethat provide the requisite knowledge, skills, andabilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special Requirements
Must be willing to workoutdoors in all type of weather and be exposed to insect, rodents, unfriendlypets and poisonous vegetation. Mustobtain ICC Property Maintenance Inspector certification within one (1) year ofemployment with the City of Montgomery Inspections Department. Must possess and maintain a valid driver'slicense as needed to operate city vehicles.
Kind of Examination
Applications are being accepted to fill two (2) vacancies and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Inspections Department . Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application.
