The City of Monticello, Illinois is currently accepting applications for a Public Works Director for the Public Works Department. The Public Works Director is full-time exempt employee and manages the entire Monticello Public Works Department (MPWD) and personnel, assuring necessary equipment and manpower are assigned for the timely completion of all tasks. Oversees the safe use of all vehicles, equipment, tools and accessories to maximize safety within the MPWD. In conjunction with the City Administrator, prepares and maintains the MPWD budget and develops reports, as required, to keep City Staff apprised of MPWD projects, daily work schedules, accident reports and citizen requests and complaints. Works cooperatively with city personnel, elected officials and citizenry to provide optimum care, upkeep and maintenance of all city buildings, property, rights-of-way and infrastructure. Recognizes the importance and benefits of being a walkable community and will ensure needed steps will be taken to constantly improve all infrastructure, including sidewalks and bike paths. Recognizes the importance and benefits of beautification and tourism to the community. Provides the needed support to all organizations supporting the efforts of the City of Monticello, including but not limited to, the Monticello Chamber of Commerce and Monticello Main Street organizations, Monticello Community School District, Monticello Township, Piatt County and other local government organizations. The public works director provides the leadership necessary to ensure that the Monticello Public Works Department will successfully provide the labor force needed to assist all city departments and other agencies, providing services to and promoting the community.
The minimum requirements for this position are: A High school diploma and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a public works related field meeting or exceeding the essential functions described within the job description. Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license with CDL-Class B, and Air Brake endorsement, or ability to obtain CDL-Class B, and Air Brake endorsement within six months of hire date. Must be willing to live within a twelve (12) mile radius of City Hall. Must have good customer service skills dealing with the public.
